Bringing you back up to speed

Since my last post, Cody’s beautiful S-10 has made it’s official racetrack debut!! 🤩

After an adjustment to the carburetor, it’s been consistently running 6.40s in the eighth-mile at around 105 mph. Cody and Dad are proud of all the work and after a few weeks of racing in South Carolina, the truck has made it’s way back home to Tennessee.

Ain’t she pretty 😍

As far as points racing and championship chasing goes, the 2021 season has literally been a washout. We’ve had two scheduled points races at Greer Dragway where, unfortunately, rain was the only winner. 🌧

Although, the weather chose to cooperate on non-points weekends, giving us a chance to get behind the wheel of all five cars. (yeah…we may have a car hoarding problem, don’t judge) 🤷‍♀️

Cody has made a few passes in his Firebird, but the truck has gotten the most attention so far. He’s also been wheeling the Monte Carlo in the Sportsman class at Greer where he picked up a win at the last race.

At least someone remembers how to win 😆

Who doesn’t love a wagon?

After starting the season in my Fireturd at Shadyside, I shifted my focus back to the wagon for a few weeks. Thanks to Dad’s expertise, the rear drum brakes have been upgraded to disc brakes which has really improved the car.

Two weeks in a row at Greer, I’ve wheeled the wagon down to the semifinals! The first weekend I lost by a .009 margin of victory and the next week I turned on the dreaded red bulb. 🤦‍♀️

I’ve been consistently hitting the tree and the wagon has cooperated so I’m hopeful this will be a great points season for us.

Providing….moral support during the brake install? 😜 And getting some air time in the wagonator!

Now, that brings you back up to speed with this past weekend. Cody and I made the trip to Knoxville Dragstrip for our first race this year in Tennessee. I drove my Fireturd so I could race Footbrake and Cody could run Sportsman, and he also towed the S-10 to run Super Pro.

Unfortunately, track prep became a problem for the faster cars where Cody lost 5th round. Lucky for me, the 9.5 second Fireturd was showing the slow-car advantage. 😉

The 60 foot only varied 4 thousandths in five runs and was only .011 slow during my final pass. Not too shabby for a street car with 180,000 plus miles on it. (Thanks to Keith at PCMForLess!)

Eventually we both let the bird down with red lights. Cody went out in the quarterfinals of Sportsman and I lost at 3 cars in Footbrake.

That makes three straight semifinal appearances for me, which I’m happy with, but I’m more than ready for another win. Cody is eager to earn that first win in the truck…and I believe it’s right around the corner!

Where to find us this weekend

This weekend it’s finally time to get back to Bristol Dragway with the DER Racing Series! Saturday and Sunday will be the first two points races of the series. That said, I hope the weather finally allows us to start accumulating points! ☀️

I’ll be looking for that Footbrake final round in my Fireturd, while Cody is going back to his bottom-bulb roots. He will be running Footbrake in the S-10 and taking on the quarter-mile Sportsman class in his Firebird.
